'BioShock' Developer Feels No 'Need' To Make Film Adaptation
The sheer magnitude of terrible videogame-to-film adaptations is quite staggering. Try as they might, Hollywood has faced an uphill battle in delivering games to the big screen in any form other than schlock that alienates the original product's fans. At this point, I'm convinced that Uwe Boll is secretly part of some massive government experiment to test the pain threshold of theater-goers everywhere, utilizing his incredible ability to turn decent videogames into absolutely horrid films. All that said, some development studios attempt to avoid the adaptation scenario all-together, or come to the realization that maybe their game franchise just doesn't need to be a film if that means the source material losing its voice. Apparently, that's precisely what's going on with Irrational Games and their overwhelmingly successful "BioShock" series. Speaking to Industry Gamers, Irrational co-founder and the brains behind "BioShock" Ken Levine stated that despite previous attempts to bring the underwater adventure game to theaters, the studio just doesn't feel compelled to focus their energy on the project. "We got very close to having it get made we had a deal in place and a director. But for us there's no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made," Levine said in the interview. "For us and for Take-Two, it's really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don't know 'BioShock,' really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game." Now, there has been some conversation over the last day or so, stating that the film is "sunk" or isn't happening. Personally, I don't think that's what Levine is saying here. The studio is currently focused on getting their next title, "BioShock Infinite," out the door. While it may be possible for the developer to hand off the project to any number of film studios, why get behind an adaptation that just phones it in? As Levine says, why make a movie "just to get it made?" Videogames are an ever-growing, maturing business that are increasingly dominating the entertainment space. Much like Ubisoft recently left Hollywood supposedly "flabbergasted" over their demand for control with the "Assassin's Creed" adaptation, game studios will probably continue to require a deeper hand in film production. Will a "BioShock" film ever get made? Maybe, maybe not but it will be on Irrational Games' terms. If that keeps the Boll pain at a reasonable level, then gamers and movie lovers should be all for it. David Yates Develops Dr. Who, As Warner Bros Tempts Him With Imitation Game
My former colleague Adam Dawtrey had a good scoop about Harry Potter director David Yates helming a feature version of the long running BBC science fiction series Dr. Who. That’s going to take several years to get a script, and he’ll need a job in the meantime. Warner Bros, which employed Yates on four Potter films including the finale, is trying hard to tempt him to direct Imitation Game, the script that the studio paid seven figures to buy last month. The Graham Moore-scripted drama is about Alan Turing, the genius and WWII hero who poisoned himself with a cyanide laced apple after being criminally prosecuted for being a homosexual. Studio has been waiting weeks to hear if Yates will bite. Stay tuned.

Five Top Reasons To See 'Immortals'
Finally, "Immortals" has finally turned up! Director Tarsem Singh's swords-and-sandals epic slashes its distance to theaters today (November 11) to supply the most effective visual thrill rides in the fall movie season. "Immortals" stars Henry Cavill as Theseus, a effective youth who finds themselves caught in the war between mortal males and animals from another plane of existence. The vicious King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) seeks a classic and terrible energy, and merely Theseus, who involves contain the legendary Epirius Bow, can put an finish to his reign of terror. If you would like additional reasons to check out "Immortals," we've got five beyond the jump. Beautiful Violence If there's one reason to find out "Immortals," it's Tarsem Singh's very visceral depiction of violence, specifically when gods and leaders are thrown to the mix. Action slows with a crawl then speeds up unexpectedly, as being a gloriously composed symphony. It's a style that's similar to what we should have seen in "300," but it's additionally to that particular: the means by that the gamers of "Immortals" tear each other to pieces is unlike anything I've come across before. The best 20 roughly minutes in the film are particularly incredible, gifting audiences with most likely the most amazing violence ever dedicated to the screen. The Man of Steel Many stars obtain turn the primary attraction throughout "Immortals," but through and through, this really is really the Henry Cavill show. The long run Superman does a fantastic job becoming an action movie lead, his presence captivating and also the capacity to cleave using the crooks indisputable. Should you doubted Cavill's casting in "Guy of Steel," his be employed in "Immortals" should greater than convince you that the best option is created. Bad for the Bone Mickey Rourke remains more than a small bit open about his disappointment in how his "Iron Guy 2" villain was referred to. Here, however, Rourke is very clearly getting a lot of fun playing Hyperion, a callous theif who munches on grapes and neuters his crooks all within the size of seconds. There's not a great like about Hyperion like a person, no, but Rourke gives you plenty to like about his performance. It's scene-eating at its finest. T t shirts Don't Need To Apply Gents, if you're looking for any reason to produce to begin dating ? to "Immortals" a couple of days ago, have a look at the fact every single guy in this particular movie is shirtless. Tears (And Blood stream And Guts Together With Other Activities) In Paradise From almighty pictures having a memorable turns from Cavill and Rourke, there's lots to like in "Immortals." But possibly it's the film's final moments that i'm most intrigued by, largely because the setup with an "Immortals" follow-up it provides is really. Frickin'. Awesome. Seriously, if "Immortals 2" does not occur, so when it doesn't get immediately where the first movie leaves off, a potentially super-awesome ball might have been dropped.
